"I wanted to create a character who could stand up to Lady Death," Pulido says. Originally conceived to appear in a continuing adventure of Lady Death: A Medieval Tale, the character of Colleen MacGrath took on a life of her own and demanded her own story. "Once I settled on the time and place, the story, a tale of revenge emerged," Pulido says. Set in Wexford Ireland around 950 AD, Colleen MacGrath was to wed Donovan O’Connor and bring together two powerful Irish families and unite Ireland. Instead all their hopes and dreams are laid to waste by marauding Vikings. A year later on Samhain, Morrigan the Celtic goddess forces Colleen to rise and claim vengeance for all the Celtic people! "Women carry the bloodline and the power in ancient Celtic culture, so I figured it was up to Colleen to make things right," Pulido surmised. Will Belladonna succeed or will the sheer numbers against her stop her and ruin Ireland’s future promise? Joining Pulido is talented newcomer Clint Hilinski. "Clint has a knack for drawing beautiful angry women. He is the right guy for the job," Pulido says. more info: www.belladonna.biz

Hilinski's also doing some work with Avatar on the Brian Pulido written series Belladonna. He's been working with publisher William Christensen for a while. Christensen wanted to find something that would fit Hilinski's style and Belladonna seemed to be the perfect project. "She's one hot and deadly, undead Irish babe," described Hilinski of his newest project. "There's a lot more to her than that, but visually that's what I'm shooting for. She's actually Colleen MacGrath, her family is Irish royalty in the year 951 a.d. Her family is slaughtered by Vikings on her wedding day and a year later the Celtic goddess Morrigan raises her from the dead seeking vengeance. It's really a pretty cool story. She really is a unique character with some pretty cool powers. People will have to check out the book to see. Brian's got some real surprises in store."

Hilinski said Brian Pulido was one of the biggest influences on the look and feel of Belladonna. "He had some really specific and unique things he wanted for this character," the artist said. "We ran thru quite a few character designs and Brian had some pretty specific details that he wanted. We pretty much did a process of elimination until we got to where Brian was happy with the look. I'm really pretty pleased with the final look of the character. I think it really is a pretty unique design. He's got a really strong vision of the character and the story. And he has a history of creating some really cool characters. I'm starting to get a real good feel for what Brian is looking for in the story. It took me a little time to hammer down what he was looking for in page layout but now were hitting on all cylinders. When William told me what the project was and who I'd be working with I was instantly sold. He's really created a tale that will draw you in and I think Belladonna as a character is one that is going to grab a lot of attention. I hope my art is going to grab some peoples attention. I think this book will definitely appeal to Brian's old Chaos fans and also to fans of CrossGen's Lady Death and Sojourn. I think readers of those books who pick up Belladonna will be pleasantly surprised.
