To understand the story, you must first understand the characters that tell it. Bruce Wayne, multi-billionaire, has invested his money in an unending quest to conquer crime entering the stage as the legend-embraced Batman. Jackie Estacado is an orphan, but lately adopted by his "uncle" into the family. The family of organized crime that is! Jackie is quickly hired as the family hitman, especially since the rise of the Darkness - which is his birthright! The story begans with the murders of several well-known and resourceful crime bosses in the Gotham City area. Batman and Jim Gordon are left baffled, not only because the murderer is unindentified,but also because the murders seem to be physically impossible. Jackie Estacado and his Uncle Frankie arrive on the scene, both attempting to move in and "organize" crime (an idea that is soon discouraged), making Gotham City an organized crime syndicate. The story itself seems to be more of a pyschological discussion of the darkness and the similarities between Batman and the Darkness. Batman is seen as a legendary character to Jackie, leaving him uneasy in simply killing him. Batman acts as a father figure, attempting to mentor Jackie and encourage him to fight the Darkness, knowing that the power is possessed by the man, not the other way around. Jackie doesn't take it well, but ends up doing "good". He shows up at the police station with Jenny with plans on turning in his uncle Frankie. Outside of the events regarding Jackie and Batman, we see the interactions of Uncle Frankie and some of the more known villains of the Gotham City. These include Two Face/Harvey Dent, Killer Croc, Catwoman, and even a two-page spread of the Joker. Needless to say, Frank Franchetti really hates Gotham City. In the end, though beaten to a bloody pulp, Batman proves that the power of his own heart and mind are enough to persuade the Darkness from violence.

Marvel Teamup #79: Spider-Man with Red Sonja (and Mary Jane)
The story begins as Spider-Man is swinging down fifth avenue by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in late December. He is late for a meeting with Robbie Robertson ad at that same moment, a guard inside the Museum notices something strange with one it's artifacts. The moon seems to be concentrating it's rays on an amulet and the guard begins to hear voices in his head not heard for over 9,000 years. The guard then reaches for the amulet cutting his hand on the glass. Spider-Man is still swinging down the street until he reaches the offices of the Daily Bugle where he changes into Peter Parker. It's the Bugle Christmas Party and everyone is there including J. Jonah Jameson and Joe Robertson. Mary Jane Watson also is there as she gives Peter a little kiss under the mistletoe.
Just as things seem very well, reports come in that there is some trouble at the Museum and Peter and Charley Snow are the only non-drinkers on staff, so they get to cover it. They leave with Mary Jane tagging along, and as they approach the museum they notice a large crowd in front amazed that the Museum seems to be engulfed in what appears to be a giant red flame. Peter senses evil and soon separates himself from the crowd and enters the Museum as Spider-Man. Mary Jane is curious as to where Peter went to so she too enters the Museum. Inside the Museum, Spider-Man is attacked by some "slime-thing" that looks like an octopus. As he frees himself of it, a swarm of "clawed chittering things" come after him. As Spider-Man is overwhelmed by the number of creatures attacking him, Mary Jane appears on the scene. Near by her is a ancient sword that begins to glow and voices begin to call her towards it. She begins to pick up the sword, and as she does, the silver light that was shining off the sword begins to cover her until she ceases to exist. In her place, comes Red Sonja, She-Devil of the Hyrkanian Steppes! Whatever that means!
Now that MJ has transformed into Red Sonja, she helps out Spider-Man by attacking the many creatures that has engulfed him. Spider-Man does not recognize who this woman is, but initially thought it was MJ because of the flaming red hair. Yes, he is right, but he does not know that! Next, a voice cries out to Red: "We two meet again" and Red Sonja recognizes that it is Kulan Gath, a supreme sorcerer. As Kulan Gath begins to attack Red, Spider-Man returns the favor of her saving him and gets her out of harms way, but Red mistakenly thinks that he is one of Gath's demons and they both fall to the ground very hard. When they next awake, they find themselves being lowered into a fiery pit while clamped to a couple of X-shaped stakes. Kulan Gath, High Priest of the N'Garai, walks out to them and explains that he desires to have the Elder gods be re-born and become the rightful rulers of mankind. The fiery pit below them is a mystic gateway to N'Garai and their lives will open it. How wonderful huh?
The last time Red Sonja and Kulan Gath met, she cut out his heart, but Gath transferred his soul into the amulet where he waited for time on end. That time came tonight as Gath reached out and snared a host body in the Museum guard. As for Spider-Man, he freaks out as some green gloppy matter reaches him making him weak. He breaks free from his stake and begins to bring down the house so to speak, but not before freeing Red. A showdown occurs next between Kulan Gath and the Spidey/ Red team. Gath blasts some spells towards them but Spider-Man easily evades them all until he reaches Gath pushing him through a window. As the three characters reach outside, Kulan Gath and Red Sonja are both amazed at the world in which they are in with all the city's bright lights and tall skyscrapers. Spider-Man then lands a punch into Gath that sends him almost into the next avenue, then takes the amulet from Gath and returning the guard to normal. Its shock after shock for Spider-Man as he next sees Red Sonja slowly turning back to Mary Jane Watson fainting into his arms.
Later on, while Peter is on a ship to Staten Island, he thinks to himself that it's a good thing that Mary Jane has filed what little she remembers of that nights incidents as a "crazy dream". As for the amulet? Peter throws it over board into the bottom of the Bay.

The first storyline has Spider-Man heading to the Savage Land in order to find the man known as Karl Lykos (formerly Sauron) who is no longer controlled by his pterodactyl-counterpart and wants to lead a lonely life in the Savage Land. But with Spider-Man and Angel mutated into monsters can Ka-Zar save the day? Perhaps, if Lykos is willing to do something no one hope he would do.
The second story has Spider-Man trying to remove his powers but instead gaining four more arms. Taking refuge in Curt Conners lab Spidey runs afoul a new foe: Morbius the Living Vampire! Who is he and what happened to him to make him a vampire. And will Spidey survive when the Lizard shows up?
Next is a Howard the Duck tale by Steve Gerber himself. Howard has to act as a warrior to assist an evil wizard to save his new friends neck.
The last tale has Frank Miller art and is probably the best of the bunch. Spider-Man is called upon to save Dr. Strange from a villain who emerges from the team-up of Dr. Doom and Dormammu. But how can Spider-Man succeed where the sorceror supreme has failed?

He came to Earth in a rocket, a strange visitor from another planet. Now, years later, signals from space could be the beginning of a trail to his home planet Krypton. Can anything stop a Man of Steel from discovering his long-lost heritage? How about the most feared and deadly species in the galaxy?!
Superman vs. Aliens begins with Clark Kent and Lois Lane voguing like fashion models en route to a mysterious assignment at LexCorp. (So great is the Daily Planet's clout, apparently, that two of its top reporters are summoned while all other media outlets in Metropolis are snubbed.) There is an alien vessel on a crash course for Earth and -- while to jaded comic-book readers it might seem like a minor thing, what with alien heroes and villains all over the place already -- the scientists are very excited by the chance to snag some alien tech. But Kent senses a Kryptonian connection and sabotages the expedition, switches garb and intercepts the ship in his familiar blues and reds. Soon, he's on his way into space in a borrowed shuttle (let's ignore the fact that he's already traveled the galaxy on his own steam in the past -- in this case, the shuttle plays a role in the plot) to confirm his belief that there are other survivors of Krypton out there.
Of course, as the title suggests, the floating rock of a colony is infested with aliens, and Superman -- attempting a rescue -- sends several host bodies back to the LexCorp satellite. (See, I told you he needed that shuttle for a reason!) Lois, as feisty as the infamous alien-fighter Ripley, has sense enough to kill the newborn aliens despite efforts by the mandatory mad scientist, who wants to harness their powers for weapons research. Meanwhile, Superman is far from the sun and nearly drained of power, but refuses to use lethal force because of his upright moral code. Sadly, that means he's repeatedly pummeled into a mess and must be saved now and again by the colony's last survivor, a 16-year-old blonde named Kara.
In 1992, DC Comics made national headlines when it announced its intention to kill Superman. The year-long storyline
spanned over three dozen comic books in more than half a dozen titles, including all four monthly Superman titles
(ACTION COMICS, SUPERMAN, THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN and SUPERMAN: THE MAN OF STEEL). It left the Superman mythos with
two new villains (the Cyborg and Doomsday) and three new allies (Superboy, Steel and the Eradicator), all of whom had
their own titles for a while. It began an era of Superman's publishing history which would last for the remainder of
the decade, in which the titles were treated not as individual titles, each with its own identity, but as parts of one
continuing storyline, a weekly Superman comic book with four or more creative teams rotating chapters. As a result, the
1990s Superman comics would be marked by long, convoluted storylines with protracted resolutions,
a billowing supporting cast populated by two-dimensional characters who existed more as plot devices, and a sense of
excess and disjointedness in almost all of the stories.
The story that began it all was collected in three volumes: THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN, a slugfest heavy on dynamic visuals
and weak on plot; WORLD WITHOUT A SUPERMAN, the best of the three, which explored the ramifications of the death of Earth's
greatest hero (and a part of the story later sagas would sorely miss); and THE RETURN OF SUPERMAN, in which four pretenders
claiming to be Superman emerged, all to take part in a great battle when the real Superman returned.

An "Elseworlds" tale that has Superman rocketing to earth as a baby and arriving, not in 20th Century America, but medieval England, Kal is a nicely told "what if...?" style story.
It's a fairly traditional medieval set story, featuring the lowly peasant (Kal), his high-born lady-love (Loisse), and an evil lord (Baron Luthor), with the obligatory midsummer's fair of jousting and the like thrown in, all made slightly more individual by the fact that the peasant in question happens to have superpowers. The thing never even really becomes a "superhero" story in that Kal never actually dons a costume or adopts a secret identity. But Gibbons delivers a story, with a beginning, middle and end -- if not quite a novel, the plot could nonetheless be comfortably transferred to a movie and no one would think themselves shortchanged. The story's made up of little scenes that build on each other, forming a whole.

Sara Pezzini, born November 18, 1970 in Manhattan, New York. Her mother died when Sara was very young. Her father was murdered. When she was a child she wanted to be a cop, like Starsky and Hutch and maybe like her father who had been a cop too. And so she became one. A homicide detective at the NYPD. Her father was dead then already. Every policeman knew that following the rules left a lot of crime unsolved and a lot of criminals unpunished. Sara however wanted to really hit the crooks where it hurts and so she often followed her own rules and laws. Like when they killed her good friend Maria Buzanis and Sara intends to kill the murderer instead of turning him in. One of the most important bosses of organized crime and big business, Kenneth Irons, lives in New York too. He owns everything, including a mysterious ancient clove like weapon called Witchblade. Although he can't use the weapon he is obsessed by it and under it's influence. In order to find the person who can use it he organizes contests, hoping that one day the Witchblade finds it's owner and he, Kenneth Irons, can use the power of the weapon through that owner. By coincidence Sara Pezzini infiltrates in one of these contests and just when her partner blew their cover she comes near the Witchblade and the weapon reacts immediately. It recognizes it's owner and as soon as Sare has surrendered herself to it it revealed it's enormous power in getting itself and his wielder out of danger. From then on Sara and Witchblade live in symbioses. She tried at first to free herself but she can't. So she learns the ins and outs of her new companion. The weapon is concealed and invisible or almost invisible when inactive, but forms a deadly harness around Sara with incredible powers when alerted. Sara has to learn to cope with all these powers, which can be lethal for her too. She also finds out that evil is if far worse than she can imagine and that organized crime and criminals are the least outings of the evil she has to fight against.
