Crossovers are something common for Hack/Slash. Now, for the first time ever, the Hack/Slash team of Cassie Hack and Vlad, will be appearing in a comic besides Hack/Slash. Coming in December, Hack/Slash will be appearing in The Living Corpse annual #1. We talked with Hack/Slash creator, Tim Seeley, and The Living Corpse co-creators Ken Haeser and Buz Hasson about the book.
The Big Bad Wolf: Tim, what are your thoughts on having your Hack/Slash team meet up with the character, The Living Corpse?
Tim Seeley: I figure, since I've been lucky enough to have a lot of creators let me borrow their characters over the years, it was about time I returned the favor. Cas and Vlad have had a lot of guest stars, but this is there first guest star role.
The Big Bad Wolf: Ken and Buz, how do each of you guys feel about The Living Corpse crossing
over with Cassie and Vlad?
Ken Haeser:
Excited as hell! We've both been fans of Hack/Slash for a while now
and we're having a lot of fun playing in Tim's world with Cassie and
Vlad. Both comics (Living Corpse and Hack/Slash) are in the same kinda
vein--- horror and comedy so it was a natural to get them together for
the project.
Buz Hasson: It's awesome really. Hack/Slash has been around for a while and I've always picked the book up. I think when I read the Chucky crossover stuff I was like "Hey..I wonder if they'd ever cross over with The Living Corpse"?
The Big Bad Wolf: How did you guys hook up to make this crossover happen?
Ken Haeser:
We got hooked up from our art rep, Paolo Belfiore who runs Cadence Comic art (www.cadencecomicart.com). He's been selling our original art for a few years now. He just recently started representing Tim and as soon as we heard that we knew he needed to hook us up!
Buz Hasson:
Like Ken said, he's ours and Tim's art rep, so as soon as I heard he picked up Tim I was like "Hey Paolo, what do think of a Hack/Slash vs. Living Corpse book?". He thought it was a cool idea and hit Tim up. Tim was into the idea and from there the gears started rolling.
The Big Bad Wolf: Can you guys reveal any of the storyline at this time?
Ken Haeser:
It's The Living Corpse, Cassie and Vlad fighting the Jersey Devil in the
wilds of south Jersey. It's not just you're normal crossover--- meet,
fight, team-up--- there are some twists and turns you won't see coming.
It's a lot of fun!!
Buz Hasson: Thats right, it will be big, in your face action, with good jokes and some nasty ghoulish things happening.
Ken Haeser: As always, there where will be lots of blood and gore. No boobies but we do something with a vagina that's never been done before--- and that's saying a lot!!
Buz Hasson: Expect blood, guts and disgustingness.
The Big Bad Wolf: All three of you are writers and artists, so just who will be writing this
series?
Ken Haeser: I wrote it with input from both Tim and Buz. Tim has been great letting us do what we are doing to his characters. I had a lot of fun playing with Cassie and Vlad!
Buz Hasson: Yeah, we all threw some ideas around. Ken put it on paper and from there we just rolled with the ideas.
The Big Bad Wolf: What about the artwork?
Ken Haeser: Artwork is by Buz and me.
The Big Bad Wolf: Will there be any alternate covers?
Ken Haeser: We've got two covers. One by me and Buz and we were lucky enough to have Tim bust out a kick ass second cover for us.
The Big Bad Wolf: When is the release date?
Ken Haeser: Scheduled to be released this December/January. It should be in this month's Previews along with The Living Corpse vol. 1 trade paperback.
The Big Bad Wolf: How many pages is this book?
Ken Haeser: The main story is about 30 pages but we're going to have a whole bunch of extra in there like pin-ups and stuff. I always liked in the old Marvel annuals where they had a few pages of Spider-man or someone explaining how their powers work and where they work and stuff. We're gonna try to do something like that in there. And maybe a back-up story--- not too sure yet.
The Big Bad Wolf: How much is the book?
Ken Haeser: Not sure yet--- less than five bucks, I hope!
The Big Bad Wolf: In closing, what would you like to say to our readers about The Living
Corpse annual #1?
Ken Haeser: If your are a fan of either Hack/Slash or The Living Corpse you will dig this book. It's sick as hell!!
Buz Hasson: If your a Hack/Slash fan, give the book a shot. I think the art alone will be fun as hell to see Cassie and Vlad pulled off in a more dark and animated style.
Tim Seeley: Glad to be a part of it. Looks like a blast.
