One of the mysteries of the Vampirella world is finally solved. The mystery of whether there were two Vampirella models who posed for the Visions of Vampirella trading cards - Cathy Christian and a virtually unknown Tracy Kahn The reason all this started was due to the fact that the Topps trading card seen below appeared to suggest that the Vampirella model was not Cathy Christian, because of the lettering on the reverse of the card crediting the photograph of the Vampirella model as Tracy Kahn. As a result people selling cards on the internet (and others) referred to the model as Tracy. |
The card is shown full size on the left, and on the reverse of the card is the picture of Cathy/Tracy standing on the bottom right corner of the card in a classic pose. This shot is the same on all the promotional cards, but not on any of the actual cards in the set proper. I assumed that the promo cards were made up before the final set was released (which you would expect, wouldn't you?) and maybe Harris hadn't chosen her to be the first Vampirella model, which was why they had used someone called Tracy. |

But Terry Sanders, Vampirella fan and sleuth, was convinced that Tracy and Cathy were one and the same. His problem - he couldn't prove it. He tried Sean Fernald, the Vampirella historian, but Sean wasn't sure. He struggled to get hold of someone from those early days who could remember what had happened. |
But
no-one could remember, and he continued to be frustrated by this
dilemma. Then his breakthrough came at the 2000 Chicago Comic
Convention when he was trying to track down Cathy Christian herself.
Stewart Morales seemed to remember that Tracy Kahn was Cathy Christian's
photographer. It seemed to click. Now all he
had to do was try to find the real Tracy to confirm his suspicion.
A bit more searching and Terry found that a Tracy Kahn had a website. Sure enough she was a photographer, and a couple of e-mails later the mystery was solved. She had indeed photographed Cathy. The mystery was solved. |
